Week Five Kindness

Week Five focuses on Kindness. The resources are designed to fit perfectly into the literacy portion of your day. There are stories for Guided Reading, Vocabulary for Posting, Word Work, Writing, Games and Crafts to decorate your bulletin board or hallway. Let’s take a peek.

The Kindness Bundle includes all three resources at a savings.

I love the Kindness Kids for posting. They are easy to make and adorable when finished. If you run the hair, cape, leggings and outfit on different colored paper students can choose. I run the patterns on colored paper and then the students just have to cut them out. For younger students I ask a parent helper to cut the pieces out so the students just have to put them together.

The signs in this resource have helpful hints on them. It is easy to prepare large ones to place in your classroom. Focus is on kindness traits…caring, helping others, showing respect. Activities focus on students drawing and writing about these as well as sharing examples of what each on might look like. Helping other…tie shoes, zipping a coat, cleaning, teaching something new.

The other three big Cc words are…cooperate, compliment and considerate. There is vocabulary for posting and word work for the students to work and understand these important BIG WORDS. There are comprehension activities after reading the literature suggestions that talk about kindness.

I LOVE the Let’s Make Words. Students cut out letters, divide them by vowels or consonants and then make words. You can put students in small groups and have them cooperate to create as many words as they can or students can work independently. I also for students needing more support take a small group and say…find the letters et. What do they say? Add a p. What word did you make? Change the e for an a. What word did you make?

There is a sort for the three special words. I like to number each of the pieces to be cut out. As a whole group I would say…Find number 1. Who would like to read #1? Where would #1 go? Let’s paste it there. Then continue. If students read independently they can complete them on their own.

Each day during the week we read one or two of the behavior cards. There are 12. As a group we identify where that behavior would go and place it by the poster.

You will find two anchor charts for posting and Literature suggestions. A Little Spot of Kindness and Do Unto Otters have their own resource.

I also wanted to share with you about the writing section. In every resource before students write I use a paragraph organizer. This is KEY in helping students create strong and meaningful paragraphs. It supports and opening sentence, two details and a closing sentence. You will also see that the final write pages include three levels and two styles of writing lines. Finally it includes a class book cover. I copy each students writing, place it in the book and then place it in the classroom for students to read each others writing. It is always the first book to be chosen at free reading time.

This is such a cut story about being a good neighbor. I always begin by asking the class … do you think you are a good neighbor? Then we read about a what owl tells rabbit…Do Unto Otters! The posters are bright and perfect for posting to share about what a good neighbor is.

You will find vocabulary for posting as well. Focus on traits, characters and setting. Your class will love this delightful story.

A Little Spot of kindness is another favorite. Again you will find so many amazing things to post and an adorable craft…super simple to make. Put those spots of kindness everywhere.

Check out the Kindness Jar. There is one for your class as well as one for each student. There is a note that goes home to parents with a checklist for students to work at kindness at home. There is a simple list of activities the child can complete. When the activities have all been completed if they return it to school I share a treat with the student. There is a similar one for school. I use this as a whole group verses independently. We focus each day on an act of kindness and at the end of the day fill our kindness jar. And don’t forget to “catch” students being kind.

Wouldn’t this world be incredible if we focused on kindness.

I’m Michele a retired educator who loved every minute of being in the classroom and creating an environment where students loved coming and materials were presented that inspired learning. After retirement 5 years ago I knew I wanted to stay connected to the classroom and education. I began pulling my materials together and creating resources for TpT. I hope you will peek at them!! Together my husband and I have raised three amazing sons who now are busy beginning families of their own. To date I only have one grandson but he is such a joy! My husband, miniature dachshund Rubee, and I love being on the water, boating and walking outside. So if you see sunglasses you know where we are!! Together we spend time at our lake house in Michigan and our winter home in Florida. We are creating so many wonderful memories.
