Autumn

Week Six with its Autumn theme

Four delightful stories are used. Each day includes complete lesson plans, a welcome activity(to work on while waiting for everyone to arrive and get started) story for guided readingvocabularyanchor chartscomprehension activities, word work, writingthemedactivity or craftmath games (related to skills learning in math). Many of the pages offered are differentiated to meet the needs of different academic levels. Everything you need for the day will be included in the resource but the story itself. They can be found in the library or purchased and you can begin your classroom library.

The lesson plans focus on the following but the complete book companions are included with a number of choices.

So let’s get started!

You are going to love this! The perfect way to integrate science in the literacy portion of your day. The mini readers are filled with informational text about autumn, the reasons leaves change color and a year in the life of an apple tree. The mini books are ideal because you can highlight key words and key facts. Vocabulary is plentiful for posting with colorful pictures. Perfect for your writing center, word wall or by the suggested literature selections. You can laminate them and students can put them in ABC order or divide by syllables. So many ways to use these.

Writing includes factual and opinion. Students write about their favorite season or about why leaves change color using the text. There are graphic organizers to help students gather facts and ideas to write a meaningful paragraph. Word work is plentiful. What a wonderful way for students to grow their vocabulary. Imagine them going home and sharing with their parents what chlorophyll means. Impressive right?!

I love the anchor chart … Four Seasons on a Hill followed by a mini book about the year of an apple tree. Students can then ask peers what their favorite season is and collect data, complete graph.

The resource ends with 4 wonderful literacy suggesting accompanied by vocabulary and comprehension activities. What a wonderful way to teach using fiction and non fiction. The stories are Leaves by Stein, Red Leaf Yellow Leaf by Ehlert, I Am A Leaf by Marzollo, and The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Leaf by Colandro. Ideal for guided reading each followed by activities.

A terrific way to embed science into the literacy portion of your day AND check out the adorable craft. Simple and perfect to hang for Fall/Autumn.

During the Autumn season we begin to prepare for winter. In this story Time to Sleep by Denise Fleming Bear and his friends are reminding each other that it’s time to sleep because winter is on the way. It is the perfect non fiction way to discover signs that winter is approaching. You will find vocabulary for posting and word work including ABC order, Syllables, a Word Search and Making Words activity. Comprehension activities include recall, sequencing, reading for details and cause and effect. Perfect for Guided Reading. There is a little mini book for students to read and use the key details to write and highlight. There is a pre writing activity for organizing thoughts and differentiated writing pages for completing an informative piece of writing. You will love the little craft to showcase student writing. I think you will FALL in love with the story, illustrations and activities.
