August/September Writing Resources

This resource is one of my favorites for FALL! It includes wonderful graphic organizers with pictures for students to organize the order of their “how to” stories. There are 5 differentiated activities to choose from. Next each theme includes vocabulary for posting with the key words needed to write. To support retelling first there are picture cards to place in a center or use in small groups. Finally students will put their thoughts altogether in the paragraph organizer and then copy onto their final write page for showcasing. I like to take 3 or 4 days to complete each theme. I firmly believe students need see how writing can grow by planning out their stories. Allow students to edit and make some corrections so they will be able to improve!!

Topics are: How to…rake leaves, pick and apple, make applesauce, pick the perfect pumpkin, carve a Jack-o-Lantern.

This resource is designed to use year long. There is a different resource each month. These resources focus on grammar and including it in student writing, engaging students with a literature suggestion, students gathering ideas, writing a copy to edit and then preparing their writing to showcase. Again my theme of students spending time on their writing to see corrections needed and writing meaningful and informative pieces.

September themes are: My Summer Vacation by Teague (grammar focus is punctuation) Brand New Pencils, Brand New Books by deGroat (grammar focus is using the connecting word AND) Authur’s Family Vacation by Brown (grammar focus is using pronouns) Johnny Appleseed by Kellogg (grammar focus is using adjectives)

The resource includes a poster to introduce the grammar, practice activities for each skill and lesson plans. You will be thrilled with the progress you students make each month.

This resource is designed to showcase student writing with a mini craft to be used as a page topper. Each lesson has informational text about the theme, graphic organizers for gathering their ideas and engaging students, paragraph organizer for students putting their ideas into a meaningful paragraph, final write pages differentiated and finally a class cover for you to prepare a book for students to read each others writing. The crafts are simple and perfect for decorating a bulletin board or hallway with student work. September themes are Johnny Appleseed and Scarecrows.

And of course I included a FREE item for you! Apple, leaves, football and back to school are the themes. The graphic organizers are differentiated and also included are pages for final writes. ENJOY!
