Honor Our Veterans with Reading, Writing, Math, and More!

Veterans Day is a wonderful opportunity to help young learners understand the importance of honoring the men and women who have served our country. My newly updated Veterans Day resource brings together informational reading, literacy, writing, math, and creative activities for a meaningful cross-curricular learning experience!

Designed for Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade, this resource helps students discover what a veteran is, why we celebrate Veterans Day on November 11, and how we can show our appreciation.

What’s Included?

Informational Mini Reader – Students learn about Veterans Day, the six branches of the military, and the importance of honoring our veterans. Best of all, there’s NO cutting or collating!

Reading Comprehension – Differentiated activities focus on recalling facts, identifying the main idea and supporting details, and demonstrating understanding.

Vocabulary and Word Work – Colorful vocabulary cards, ABC order, parts of speech, word searches, making words, and more!

Meaningful Writing – Students organize their thoughts and write about veterans, freedom, and gratitude using differentiated writing organizers and final writing pages.

Math Connections – Class polls, three differentiated graphing activities, and two fun dice partner games reinforce addition, counting, and comparing numbers.

Veterans Day Craft – An adorable soldier craft accompanies student writing to create a meaningful classroom or hallway display honoring our veterans.

Flexible Teaching Options!

I’ve included a suggested two-day teaching outline, complete with learning objectives, morning openers, discussion questions, teacher tips, and exit slips.

There are more activities than you’ll need for two days! Choose what works best for your students and save additional activities for literacy centers, math stations, or independent practice.

A Special Way to Say Thank You!

Veterans Day is about more than completing an activity. It’s about helping children develop an understanding of service, sacrifice, freedom, and gratitude.

I hope this resource helps you create a memorable learning experience while teaching your students the importance of saying “Thank you for your service!”

I’m Michele a retired educator who loved every minute of being in the classroom and creating an environment where students loved coming and materials were presented that inspired learning. After retirement 5 years ago I knew I wanted to stay connected to the classroom and education. I began pulling my materials together and creating resources for TpT. I hope you will peek at them!! Together my husband and I have raised three amazing sons who now are busy beginning families of their own. To date I only have one grandson but he is such a joy! My husband, miniature dachshund Rubee, and I love being on the water, boating and walking outside. So if you see sunglasses you know where we are!! Together we spend time at our lake house in Michigan and our winter home in Florida. We are creating so many wonderful memories.
