2. Games
These are so much fun because they are played with a partner. Communication takes place between students and you’ll find your class talking about math and strategies. In this resource each game is followed by a record keeping sheet so if you are unable to observe the partners playing you can assess using the record sheet. While students are playing I like to walk around and observe making note of students struggling with the skill.

3. Word checks are so helpful.
I recruit parent helpers to go through the lists with students. I only highlight the words they do not recognize fluently. I then make a copy for home so parents can support their child and one for me. I do a quick recheck every couple of weeks.

4. Spelling Pretests
The secret to these is the Spelling Pretest given the day before the test. These are a great form of assessment for what words students need to study before the next day and the test. When this goes homes parents can also see what their child needs support with. Marvelous form of Formative Assessment.

5. Watch Me Grow
Each of these resources are so helpful to me. I prepare the Month by Month over the summer and have them punched. On the supply list I put a three ring 1 inch notebook. As students bring the notebooks in I put the cover on and keep them stored. Each month students complete activities. I use the writing piece as a formative assessment. I keep a checklist only of which students need support and with what.
At the end of the year I send them home with the students for a collection of how they made progress over the year. LOVE!!
