Let’s Talk Writing

Have you heard that question before? What can I write about? Or maybe it was you asking yourself what the class can write about. This resource is filled with ideas. Lists, captions, stories (how to, opinion, narrative, informative), and letters are all covered in this packet.

Introduce the type one at a time and after the style has been taught students can begin making their own choices as to what to write about. You can then choose to put one style out for choice or several. There are graphic organizers to help them accurately gather their thoughts and then choice cards for them to select what they will write about. I liked keeping a student folder and then students checked off date, what they wrote about, style of writing and editing tool. For me looking over students thoughts before they completed the paragraph was important. Take a peek at these tools.

And this is a similar version I created for a center and actual teaching and posting about the lessons. It has the cutest “toolbox” and a construction theme. You could prepare a center with building writing skills. I also included in this a mini dictionary for students and information about proofreading. Take a peek!!

I’m Michele a retired educator who loved every minute of being in the classroom and creating an environment where students loved coming and materials were presented that inspired learning. After retirement 5 years ago I knew I wanted to stay connected to the classroom and education. I began pulling my materials together and creating resources for TpT. I hope you will peek at them!! Together my husband and I have raised three amazing sons who now are busy beginning families of their own. To date I only have one grandson but he is such a joy! My husband, miniature dachshund Rubee, and I love being on the water, boating and walking outside. So if you see sunglasses you know where we are!! Together we spend time at our lake house in Michigan and our winter home in Florida. We are creating so many wonderful memories.
