The Bumpy Little Pumpkin: Two Days of Fall Literacy, Math and Science Fun

September 28, 2026 No Comments

Bring fall learning to life with The Bumpy Little Pumpkin! This updated K–2 book companion combines literacy, math, science, writing, vocabulary, and a pumpkin craft into two engaging days of cross-curricular learning.

Students discover that pumpkins come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and textures while exploring an important message—a pumpkin doesn’t have to be perfect to be special!

The included two-day lesson plans make it easy to pull the activities together into meaningful, cohesive instruction.

Day 1: The Bumpy Little Pumpkin

Begin with a fun Good Morning, Pumpkin Pickers! opener and class poll before reading the story. Students describe and compare pumpkins, build vocabulary, make predictions, and listen to The Bumpy Little Pumpkin. After reading, extend comprehension through character feelings, story elements, character traits and evidence, author’s purpose, and discussion.

I’m Michele a retired educator who loved every minute of being in the classroom and creating an environment where students loved coming and materials were presented that inspired learning. After retirement 5 years ago I knew I wanted to stay connected to the classroom and education. I began pulling my materials together and creating resources for TpT. I hope you will peek at them!! Together my husband and I have raised three amazing sons who now are busy beginning families of their own. To date I only have one grandson but he is such a joy! My husband, miniature dachshund Rubee, and I love being on the water, boating and walking outside. So if you see sunglasses you know where we are!! Together we spend time at our lake house in Michigan and our winter home in Florida. We are creating so many wonderful memories.
