B is for Behavior

Starting the school year out with a positive behavior management plan is so important. Behavior management in the classroom, creates an environment where learning can take place.

Behavior management is also one of the toughest challenges every teacher faces. How classroom control and individual student behavior is maintained must be consistent and established beginning on the first day.

There a MANY suggestions on how to maintain classroom control BUT, the truth is YOU have to find what works for YOU!!

Over the years I have found these helpful hints.

1.  Set CLASSROOM RULES

When setting classroom rules I like to keep them POSITIVE and SIMPLE.

(EX: I listen carefully while others are speaking.  NOT  I don’t talk while others are speaking.)

I also found that in setting the rules keep these 2 things in mind…

Be Kind

Be Safe

Finally, before you begin any activity, before you head into the hall, before you read a story, remind the class what the rules for this activity are. Especially early on in the school year.

(EX: I am inviting everyone to push their chair in a walk quietly to the story area. Find you own space and get ready to listen.)

Here you see materials to support teaching your class about the meaning of the rules.

There is a letter to parents, a behavior plan for parents and others and bulletin board ideas.

A full year of Behavior Management ideas!!

I’m Michele a retired educator who loved every minute of being in the classroom and creating an environment where students loved coming and materials were presented that inspired learning. After retirement 5 years ago I knew I wanted to stay connected to the classroom and education. I began pulling my materials together and creating resources for TpT. I hope you will peek at them!! Together my husband and I have raised three amazing sons who now are busy beginning families of their own. To date I only have one grandson but he is such a joy! My husband, miniature dachshund Rubee, and I love being on the water, boating and walking outside. So if you see sunglasses you know where we are!! Together we spend time at our lake house in Michigan and our winter home in Florida. We are creating so many wonderful memories.
