I love this resource and all the tools it has to enhance positive classroom behavior. Research has proven that the best way for teachers to manage behavior in the classroom is through praise. Teachers should pay more attention to the behaviors they do want to see as this is a more effective strategy rather than pointing out negative behavior. After using this strategy I am here to tell you Positive Reinforcement WORKS!!
I begin the year by actually teaching and demonstrating positive behavior. The focus is on BIG WORDS. Cooperation, Responsible, Respectful, Enthusiastic … I put these on a bulletin board with big letters I CAUGHT YOU!! And the rest fits into this theme. You are going to catch students demonstrating these positive behaviors with the simple to use behavior rewards provided in the packet. Again I stress the importance of discussing, writing and thinking about these behaviors so students understand the positive impact they make.

The packet includes 12 examples for reading and discussing the behavior. I like to read one a day at the beginning of the year and then having a discussion about the event on the card.

After I feel comfortable that students understand positive behaviors I begin using the “I caught you” rewards. I like to keep a checklist of who gets a reward and what it was for to be sure I am finding ALL students being cooperative. There are two styles of rewards. One is for writing and the other has a checklist of positive behaviors.

I also like rewarding the class on a daily basis. At the end of the day we review the overall behavior. Then the class earns stickers toward special days! You or the class can decide. The chart and stickers are designed according to seasons and months. Each one also includes the “I caught you” forms that fit the theme. These are available in black and white or color.

I found tremendous success using this system and I feel confident you will as well!! Michele
